Fourth Ward Councilor Renee Baskerville invites community members to a free information session about fair housing laws and how individuals can protect themselves against housing discrimination. The presenter will be Amanda Smith of the New Jersey Citizen Action Education Fund (NJCAEF) fair housing enforcement program. The event will take place Tuesday, February 27, 7:00 p.m. in Fire Headquarters, 1 Pine Street, Montclair.

Attendees will learn about their rights under the Fair Housing Act, which protects the buyer or renter of a dwelling from seller or landlord discrimination. Ms. Smith will also discuss New Jersey’s fair housing laws, testing investigations and how NJCAEF helps victims of housing discrimination. There will be opportunities for questions and answers throughout the evening.

Those who serve on the Montclair Township Housing Commission, Landlord-Tennant Advisory Board, Civil Rights Commission, People with Disabilities Advisory Committee, Senior Citizen's Advisory Committee, the NAACP Housing Committee, NAACP Youth Council, and those considering joining one of these groups are encouraged to attend. The program would also be of interest to anyone concerned with social justice and housing discrimination.
