The Montclair Art Museum (MAM) is thrilled to announce that it has been named Favorite Visual Arts Camp in the 2018 JerseyArts.com People’s Choice Awards for the fourth consecutive year. Presented by Discover Jersey Arts, a program of ArtPride New Jersey Foundation and New Jersey State Council on the Arts, the annual awards highlight the work of New Jersey’s vital and diverse arts community.

“We’re so grateful for this designation and to be named once again among the top arts organizations in the state,” said Lora Urbanelli, MAM director. “It is a great honor to be recognized in these awards, and to receive such overwhelming support from our peers and audiences, year after year.”

This year, more than 18,000 art lovers cast their ballots for their favorite local arts groups and destinations. MAM’s SummerART camp garnered 1,541 votes and was amongst those honored this morning at ArtPride New Jersey’s headquarters at Lyceum Hall Center for the Arts in Burlington, NJ. In this competitive year, the Museum not only received recognition for its camps, but was also named among the top adult art classes and museums in the state. Montclair organizations had a strong showing, with Montclair Film Festival, Montclair Jazz Festival, Opera Theatre of Montclair, and Montclair Center all winning their respective categories.

What continues to set MAM’s SummerART camp apart is the integrative and dynamic experience that teaches specific art skills while applying them to interdisciplinary topics. Campers improve self-esteem, develop a sense of personal voice, and strengthen their creative thinking. Spring and summer registration is now open at montclairartmuseum.org, with spring classes starting April 9 and summer offerings starting June 25. Camps are now also held during school vacations, including spring break March 30–April 6, and offer before and after care.

“For more than a decade, the People’s Choice Awards has blown us away, and this year is no exception,” said Allison Tratner, Interim Executive Director of the State Arts Council, during today’s awards ceremony. “The outstanding nominees get better every year, and their passionate patrons and fans come out and vote by the thousands, making it known that the arts in New Jersey are not to be missed.”

“The arts are an unwavering force in N.J. They make an incredible impact on the economy and bring our communities together to move them forward,” said Adam Perle, President & CEO of the ArtPride New Jersey Foundation. “And, after celebrating 10 years of the awards, it’s clear that the arts matter to New Jerseyans.”
